What to Expect from Search Engine Optimization

You know that search engine optimization (SEO) is important, and you’ve followed recommendations for SEO on your website. At this point, you may be wondering what happens next. Let’s look at some frequently asked questions about what to expect from SEO.

How Long Does SEO Take?

This is the question we hear most often. SEO time is the question on every website owner’s mind. And the answer is… there’s no specific timeline for SEO. It’s a long-term plan and will take anywhere from 6–12 months to yield significant results. SEO is also an ongoing process, so you’ll need to plan to devote time to it to maintain results and continue to improve.

It’s important to note that every website is different, and even if you follow the same SEO strategy as someone else, you cannot replicate their results.

How Does SEO Work?

Search engine optimization works by conducting keyword research, optimizing content, and making technical improvements that increase a website’s ranking, visibility, and likelihood of conversions.

What Factors Influence SEO Results?

All of these factors influence the amount of time SEO takes to yield significant results. A good SEO strategy will take each one into account:

  • Website Age
  • Website History
  • Website Size
  • Previous SEO Implementations
  • Website Content Quality
  • Backlinks
  • Technical Optimizations
  • Website Speed
  • Website Performance
  • Website Niche
  • E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness)
  • Google Core Algorithm Updates
  • Your Competition in the Market

How Do I Measure SEO Success?

Before implementing any SEO strategy, you should have identified your goals and objectives. You’ll measure your success based on meeting those goals.

If you aren’t sure what you should look for, start with Google Analytics. Look for increased traffic to your website, lower bounce rates, and higher conversions. Other good signs include an increase in average session duration, pages per session, and percentage of return visitors.

In addition to these, the obvious measurement of success is a better placement in the SERPs.

How Does Squarespace Perform for SEO?

The other day I met with a friend-of-a-friend who also happens to be a website designer/developer. Excited to make another friend in the field, we quickly got to talking about various platforms and tools we use. When he asked what platform we use at KP Kreative, I excitedly started to share all we are able to accomplish through Squarespace. And then, I kid you not, he scoffed out, “...but Squarespace sucks for SEO”. A bit more back and forth and I knew I had to do some digging for myself. Our websites all perform well for SEO, but is there something that we’re missing?
